The Origin Story

2020: The Breaking Point

I was a leasing agent during the pandemic. The job came with a perk — 50% off my rent. Golden handcuffs. But then my area manager started pushing me to evict families who couldn't pay. People who were struggling through the same crisis we all were. I couldn't do it. I needed a way out, but I was trapped by that discount.

The Podcast That Changed Everything

I was looking for something — anything — that was low skill, low investment, and could replace that rent discount. Then I found Erica Kroopin's interview on The Side Hustle Show with Nick Loper. She was talking about pet waste removal. I listened to the whole thing and immediately knew what I needed to do.

6 Years and 500+ Properties Later

What started as a desperate side hustle became Scoops — my lifestyle business serving properties across the Mojave Desert and Southern California. I've been running it solo since 2020, learning every lesson the hard way. And there were a lot of hard lessons.

I Made Every Mistake So You Don't Have To

Before Scoopify, I tried everything. Spreadsheets. Apple Reminders. Jobber. Housecall Pro. Sweep & Go. None of them got it.

Massively undercharging for one-time cleans because I had no system to price them right.

Customers signed up but never got added to my system. They'd call asking where I was.

2+ hours driving for one stop

Criss-crossing the Mojave Desert with zero route optimization. Pure chaos.

Dog bites from bad timing

Not sending 'on my way' messages or sending them too late. The dogs weren't ready. Neither were the owners.

Why Existing Tools Didn't Work

Generic home service software — doesn't understand price-per-dog, initial cleans, or how poop scooping actually works.

Poop scoop specific software — built by someone with no experience in the industry. Missing all the important nuance.

Per-seat pricing — punishes you for growing. There's no technical reason for it other than greed.

My own DIY system — fragmented data across spreadsheets, reminders, and manual processes. No automation.

So I Built What I Needed

It started as a Wix website for my own business. I built my own automatic quoting tool so customers could accept or deny quotes online. Set up email notifications. Let customers schedule their own appointments. Integrated Twilio for SMS. Piece by piece, I created the system I wished existed.

I even thought about selling the Wix setup as a template to help other scoopers hit the ground running. But it just wasn't flexible enough. It wasn't good enough.

With 10 years of web design and 5 years of custom coding under my belt, I knew I could build something better. Something that wasn't just a website with band-aids — a real, integrated platform built specifically for this industry.
